Dana Supplies Shaft Components For The 2018 Isuzu FTR

DNA announced that they will supply axles and drive shaft components to Isuzu Commercial Truck of America’s 2018 FTR, which will start production in mid-2017.

The 2018 Isuzu FTR is designed for urban distribution services such as delivery of drinks, boxes and refrigerators. The model will be powered by the Isuzu 4HK 1-TC 5.2L turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, and wil include the Alison 2000 series automatic transmission.

“As Dana is focused on quality and innovation, we have selected the 2018 Isuzu FTR for its Spicer drive shaft,” said Shaun Skinner, President of Commercial Truck in Isuzu. “The new truck represents our vision for the future medium–sized truck market, which is fuel – efficient, environmentally friendly and low–cost, and Dana’s components help us achieve that.

The motor and gearbox

Behind the starter motor is the motor itself - sometimes directly connected to the drive but more frequently these days through a gearbox.

The aim of the gearbox is to reduce the size of the starter motor required. A smaller, higher revving motor can now be used with the added benefits of lower weight and current requirements. The downside is that the armature is now spinning very fast indeed and the gearboxes have been known to fail. 

The gearboxes themselves are relatively simple to repair and on the whole can easily be tacked by any competent D.I.Y mechanic.
